FAQs
Have a question about your oral health or a specific dental service? You’re not alone! Here are answers to some of the most common questions we hear from patients at East Fork Family Dentistry.

Tooth sensitivity often happens when gums recede, exposing the inner layer of your teeth (dentin). This can make nerves more reactive to hot, cold, or sweet foods. Desensitizing toothpaste and specific in-office treatments can help alleviate the discomfort.
The best defense is a strong home routine:
- Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste
- Floss at least once a day
- Limit sugary snacks and drinks
- Visit us every 6 months for cleanings and checkups
Gingivitis is the earliest stage of gum disease. It causes red, swollen, or bleeding gums. The good news is that, with daily brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits, it’s totally reversible.
If gingivitis isn’t treated, it can advance into periodontal disease. This more serious infection can damage bone and lead to tooth loss. Symptoms may include:
- Persistent bad breath
- Receding gums
- Tooth sensitivity or pain
- Loose or shifting teeth
Treatment depends on the severity, but may include:
- Deep cleanings
- Laser therapy
- Local antibiotics
- Periodontal surgery (in advanced cases)
- Silver (amalgam) fillings have been used for decades, but have become outdated due to more of the tooth structure needing to be removed and their very noticeable appearance.
- We offer white (composite) fillings that blend in with your natural teeth and bond directly to the tooth structure, offering a more discreet option without sacrificing durability.
We offer several cosmetic treatments to enhance your smile:

Teeth whitening is a safe, affordable way to brighten your smile. We offer professional whitening that’s stronger and more effective than store-bought products—and it’s done under expert supervision for the best results.
Bonding uses a tooth-colored resin to fix chips, gaps, or discoloration. It’s quick, cost-effective, and delivers instant results, often in just one visit.
Veneers are ultra-thin porcelain shells placed over the front of your teeth to improve shape, color, and alignment. They’re a popular option for achieving a flawless smile with minimal prep.
Crowns are custom-made caps that cover a damaged or decayed tooth. They restore strength and appearance, and typically take just two visits to complete.
A dental implant is a titanium post that replaces the root of a missing tooth. It’s surgically placed in the jawbone and topped with a natural-looking crown to permanently restore your smile.
- Look and function like natural teeth
- Permanent and stable
- Help prevent bone loss and shifting teeth
- No need for removable dentures or damaging neighboring teeth
Most adults with healthy gums and enough bone support are candidates. Chronic conditions like uncontrolled diabetes or severe osteoporosis may affect eligibility. However, we can evaluate your unique situation during a consultation.
